Kaleidoscope

I don't often share before and after comparisons on my page. Mainly because I think that most people don't really care about the process, they care about the end result.
I am making an exception this time, because this particular photo perfectly illustrates my creative process and the reason I began photography in the first place.
If you're bored or curious, by all means, read on. I am about to open the curtains and let in the light.

I always see 'pictures' in my mind. I see light and bombs go off in my brain, tiny explosions of beauty that streak through like a shooting star.
A  kaleidoscope of colors and shapes.
These blasts of light aren't occasional, either.
They are constant; glimpses into an alternate reality of my own, where light is so hyper real and things are extraordinary. My own private fairy tale, if you will.
When I learned the technical aspects of photography from my father, I began to reconcile the world I see with the world as everyone else sees it.
I began to harness the light spectrum and draw out what I see.
Sometimes, this daily barrage of light explosions culminates into an image that I simply cannot get out of my head. I must create it, I cannot stop obsessing about it.
It's this persistent heaviness in the back of my mind until I make it real.
When I am able to transform this reflection in my mind into something you can enjoy, it makes me happy. That sounds so trite but it's 110% true.
For me, a photo session begins in my mind long before it even takes place. I often build an entire photoshoot off a glimpse of sunlight on a blade
of grass, or the shine in someone's brown eyes when the sun hits it just right and there's this burst of gold and honey and all is right in the world...

You know part in the movie, The Fast and the Furious, where Dom talks about living his life one quarter mile at a time? I live my life one ray of light at a time.

The point of this rambling is tell you that my camera and my digital darkroom are tools I use to bring what I see in my head to life.
This before and after exemplifies that. Take it as you will.
